Joshua Cohen was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1980. He is the author of five works of fiction – A Heaven of OthersCadenza for the Schneidermann Violin Concerto, Witz (Book of the Year 2010, Village Voice), Four New Messages (Book of the Year 2012, The New Yorker), and Book of Numbers (Book of the Year 2015, The Wall Street Journal, and NPR) – and one work of nonfiction, Attention! A (Short) History. Cohen has worked as a critic for Harper’s Magazine, and has won a Pushcart Prize, and the 2013 Matanel Prize for Jewish Literature. He lives in New York City.
