Isabelle Mayault

Isabelle Mayault, born in Paris in 1986, is a freelance journalist, travel writer, editor and author. After a long stay in Beirut, with detours is Algeria and Istanbul, she worked in Cairo, where she wrote Jours Tranquille au Caire, published with Riveneuve in 2015, and co-edited the travel book Uncommon Cairo. She subsequently lived in Burkina Faso, and in 2018 she earned an International Reporting Fellowship to report from Madagascar. She is part of the editorial staff for the literary review Rowayat, and her writing has appeared in The Guardian, Le Monde Magazine, La Repubblica, Al Jazeera and The London Review of Books, amongst other publications. Her first novel, Une Longue Nuit Mexicaine, about lost negatives from the Spanish civil war, was published in February 2019 by Gallimard. Her field of interest includes social movements, migration, women’s rights and the environment. She is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland.
