Claudia Durastanti

Claudia Durastanti was born in Brooklyn in 1984, the daughter of Italian parents from Basilicata, where she and her mother moved back to when she was six years old. Her first novel, Un giorno verrò a lanciare sassi alla tua finestra, was published by Marsilo in 2010, when she was 26 years old. It won the Premio Mondello Giovani and the Premio Castiglioncello. Since then, she has worked as a journalist for Il Venerdì, the Italian edition of Rolling Stone and the Los Angeles Review of Books, and also as translator for Marsilio and minimum fax, translating, amongst others, the works of Joshua Cohen from English into Italian. In 2013, she published her second novel with Marsilio, A Chloe, per le ragioni sbagliate, and a third with minimum fax in 2016, Cleopatra va in prigione. Her latest novel La Straniera (La Nave di Teseo, 2019), an autobiographical account of her youth, won the Premio Pozzale Luigi Russo, the Premio Strega Off, and was on the short-list for the Premio Strega. She currently resides in London.
