Álvaro Enrigue

Álvaro Enrigue was born in Mexico, the youngest of four brothers –two of which are writers. After studying Journalism at the Universidad Iberoamericana, he began a career as editor and columnist for publications such as Vuelta and Letras Liberas. His first novel, La muerte de un instalador, published in 1996, when he was 27 years old, won the Joaquín Mortiz Prize. He has published six novels and two short stories books since then. Sudden Death, released in English by Riverhead in 2016 won various important prizes in Spain and the Americas. He has written pieces of criticism and non-fiction for The New York Times, El País, The New York Review of Books or The LRB, amongst other periodicals. He has also taught Creative Writing workshops at Princeton, Columbia and NYU. He currently resides in New York City, where he writes and teaches Literature at Hofstra University.
